The Friends of Gatcombe

“The Friends”, our parents' association arrange social and fund-raising events throughout the year. We are highly indebted to them for their work and for the extra money, which provides resources for the school. Recently they purchased a music system for the hall and wooden tables and seats for the copse. They have also pledged money to improve the wild life area. The Friends help provide Christmas parties, discos, sales and a summer fair. Why not join them while your child is at Gatcombe.

The Gatcombe Murals

How do you liven up a drab looking entrance area? You commission a professional artist to create a mural with the involvement of the whole school, and the Friends fund it. So after the Autumn 2006 half term holiday artist Steve Porter arrived and the fun began.

The process begins, the design is sketched out on the plywood base from the design ideas provided by the pupils. It is being produced on three sheets of plywood, much easier to work on. These will be fixed to the entrance wall when the mural is finished.
Painting underway. Most of the painting was carried out by pupils under the supervision of Steve Porter.
More details are added. Most of the pupils in the school had an opportunity to contribute to the mural. It took four days to complete.
The finished mural in pride of place next to the school entrance. Isn't it superb. The Gatcombe Owl features prominently.

The school were so impressed with the first mural they commissioned a second. This was funded by the school and is based on ideas from the school but it is all Steve Porters excellent work. (click here for a view from the other side)
