Car Parking

Our car park is very small and regretfully we cannot make space available for parents' cars. Children's safety is our paramount concern here, and we must ALWAYS ensure access for emergency vehicles. Please do not obstruct the school entrances or our neighbours drive ways.

Charges for School Activities

It is our policy not to make charges for regular daily activities during school hours although there are occasions when we may ask parents to make a voluntary contribution e.g. towards school visits, cooking or craft. No child is excluded from an activity because a contribution has not been made.

Collective Worship
Whole school assemblies take place daily and are broadly Christian in content. They also include topics which encourage children to think about moral, cultural and environmental issues. Parents may withdraw their children on religious grounds by writing to the Head teacher.

Discipline
We expect everyone to live and work harmoniously and respect each other’s rights to work. A copy of our Behaviour Management Policy is given to all parents.

Dogs
For health and safety reason no dogs (except guide dogs) are allowed into the school grounds.

Headlice

Please inspect your child’s head regularly for nits and lice and let us know if your child has a problem with these.

Homework

Our home/school reading arrangement provides a valuable link and we encourage all children to read regularly at home. Other homework activities are designed to support learning going on in school. It is helpful if children have somewhere quiet to work at home and we appreciate the support parents give with homework.

Medicines

If your child is on long term medication e.g. for asthma, please let us know and ensure they have a named inhaler in school if they require it.

The school is unable to administer other medicines.

School Meals

These are prepared in the school's kitchen. The week's menu is displayed in school ( or follow the links below ). Dinner money should be paid every Monday please, and must be brought in a named purse or envelope. You are welcome to pay for meals termly or half-termly by cheque if you prefer. The cost of a school meal will be £1.80 from September 2009. If you think you might be entitled to free school meals please speak to the administrative staff in the School Office.

Menu

Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch. This should be in a plastic box and named clearly. In the interest of safety, no glass containers or fizzy canned drinks please. No sweets should be brought to school.

We are planning to become involved in the Healthy Schools Project and one element of this is healthy eating. We hope you will support our aim to be a healthy school by ensuring your child has a healthy and well balanced lunch including fruit and/or vegetables.

Transfer to Secondary school

Children from Gatcombe Park go to a variety of secondary schools. All parents of Year Six pupils are given an information pack about transfer to secondary school at the beginning of the autumn term prepared by the Local Education Authority.

In the summer term Year Six pupils have an induction day at the secondary school they will be attending. We are working hard to forge links with all the secondary schools our children go to in order to make the transition as easy as possible for everyone.
